Lily Allen Bush Hall Competition
Musiclikedirt has been raving about Lily for sometime now (along with every single other music blog), so its great to see her tearing up the pop charts with her 2nd single “Smile“.
She’s also got a spangly new website: lilyallenmusic.com, and for the first couple of weeks it had a huge pic of mine on the front page 
. Always nice to get feedback, and I guess having your piccies snaffled is praise indeed. There are also some pics I took at the 3rd yOyO show (the “shit” one) in the gallery, and a link to more pics and a review I did for gigwise.com in the news section.
Anyway to celebrate Lilys success musiclikedirt brings you its first and probably last ever competition!
Win two tickets to Lily’s completely sold out show at the 350 capacity Bush Hall, London on Tuesday the 18th July. Couldn’t think of a decent competition question so this is how to win the tix.
To win post a comment on here with a link to a website, picture, fav mp3, band, just something that you think HAS to be checked out. I’ll narrow it down to the best ones and email the winner.
As all these competition thingys say I reserve the right to change the rules, flog them for huge profit on ebay instead, etc… although Im sure I wont do either.

The ska and soul samples Lily uses (e.g. Professor Longhair’s “Big Chief“) were one of the first things that attracted me to her music, and keep me hooked now. On “Smile” the wonderful summer ska sound and keyboards are taken from “Free Soul“, a 1969 track by The Soul Brothers. Produced by the legendary Coxsone Dodd, with piano from Studio One’s very own Keyboard King Jackie Mittoo its certainly an inspired choice to pilfer, although I believe they recreated the samples themselves for the official release.

In other Lily news, she’s been recording backing vocals for new Robbie Williams material, apparently he’s doing a cover of Manu Chao’s “King Of The Bongo“! The mind boggles.
She was also on the Live Lounge with Jo Whiley covering a Kooks track, and doing an acoustic “Smile”. You can see pictures here, and listen again for a week (I think).

ok, so seeing as i saw the link to this competition on lily’s myspace I thought I’d share another bands myspace with you. “Apartment” should be heard by everyone. Ive been to most of their gigs since 2004 and they never get old.
Debut album is gonna be released September and their new single “my brother chris” is out at the end of the month.

If you love Lily then I think you’ll like her labelmateSiobhan Donaghy (who as you might recall used to be in Sugababes v1.0). She released a solo album (Revolution In Me) a few years ago and unfortunately got dropped but she’s back with new material which you can hear on her MySpace. Have a listen to Sometimes which is a great summer track!
