Respect To James Brown
Its been just over a month since The Godfather of Soul passed away (although he still hasn’t been buried), and the tributes continue to flood in. Here are four of the best mixes, radio shows, and Brown classics I’ve come across as music makers and fans all over the globe pay their debt.

In 1984 Double D & Steinski made the legendary “Lesson 2 (The James Brown mix)” so its fitting that Steinski should pay tribute to the mans passing. Guesting on “Beats In Space” he focuses on Brown’s finest live performances, along with a few mixes to round things off.

Over on Coldcut’s Solid Steel radio show, DK & Strictly Kev produce one of the best tributes yet. Strictly Kev stays true to Coldcut’s Kleptomatic tendencies and throws in everything from Derek & Clive, Franklyn Ajaye, and a pair of reggae-fied Hot Pants. DK meanwhile explores the Godfathers influence on Hip Hop. Both parts 100% Essential.

If you want Hip-Hop and JB, the Stones Throw podcast is the place to be. They offer up a 3 part mix by Peanut Butter Wolf, J.Rocc and Egon. Songs by, sampled from, and inspired by the Godfather of Soul.

Diplo also dedicated his Mad Descent Worldwide Radio show to the great man:
“James Brown died on Christmas, and I couldn’t do any more podcasts til we did it about him… cause james brown gave birth to this podcast and he gave birth to everything in modern music – nothing is the same after he was here and now he’s gone and I feel bad for people in heaven that have to rewind through his life cause it must be pretty damn nuts. This mix of JB songs and production credits is under 30 minutes and I thought I was listenin to it for 3 days before it ended“.

Hey! Meant to say – congrats on being listed in Q magazine as one of the top mp3 blogs! They call you ‘prolific’!
So I take it you’re on a bit of a hiatus. I hope to see more posts sometime soon.
Prolific! Perhaps Q hadnt actually looked at the site… I’ve been so slack on the posting of late for various reasons.
Doctashock – sorry hopefully i’ll be back soon and a bit more regular! Thanks
