I must confess, the rowdy fellows at the front shouting praise to the legend that is Luke Flowers were me and my comrades. I believe what was actually shouted was "Flowers you're a genius" by my comrade Dave to parody the guy shouting "Tony you're a genius" on the London Elektricity Live at Scala DVD (well there were cameras ALL over the place) perhaps we will see a live DVD?

Freddie - I didnt mention Patrick's support slot because unfortunatly I missed it. Would have loved to have seen him as the brief glimpse of his talents during the CO set left me intriged as to what he'd be like on his own.

Did he use the effects pedal on his voice much during the support slot? Absolutley loved the way he bent and reshaped his voice so it literally bounced around the hall.

All in all a fair and balanced review. While it was a superb concert, it did lack a certain edge. I wondered if that had something to do with it being recorded and filmed - were they on their best behaviour?

Certainly I could have done with a little less j-a-z-z bizness from the sax and clarinet man and a lot more of the stunning string section. Every song was given the jazz 'treatment', which paradoxically made for a degree of predictability, as every song was explored and elongated. 'The Rites of Spring', for instance, would have been so much more impactful it had been shorter. I think they need to learn that less is sometimes more - probably why 'To build a home' stood out, as it was comparatively minimal and short.

You don't mention Patrick Watson's support slot; what i caught of it was superb. For my money he's more Jeff Buckley than Anthony or Chris, but maybe it's better just to say he's an original, as he clearly has the confidence to do his own thing.

Either way, anyone lucky enough to see them outdoors at the Big Chill this summer surely has a treat in store for them.
